Prague is one of Europe's most visited cities and one of its most location-dependent for short-term rentals. Old Town puts guests inside the postcard; Žižkov puts them inside the real city. Both are valid choices — but guests who book expecting one and get the other write reviews about it.

Note: Prague short-term rentals require registration with the city. The Czech Republic introduced tighter regulations for platforms in 2022; confirm your property's compliance and tax registration before listing.

Staré Město (Old Town) — Best for First-Time Prague Visitors

The historic centre — Old Town Square, the Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, and the medieval street grid that has made Prague one of the world's most photographed cities. Guests who stay here walk to everything; the tradeoff is tourist density and noise from the stag-do circuit.

  • Best for: first-time Prague visitors, short stays (2–3 nights), couples on city breaks
  • Metro: Staroměstská (Line A) — central, walkable to Wenceslas Square and Charles Bridge
  • Must-mention: Old Town Square Astronomical Clock at the hour, Charles Bridge at dawn (empty), Josefov Jewish Quarter for history
  • Tip: warn guests about the Old Town noise — the stag party circuit is loud until 3am on weekends

Vinohrady — Best for Local Character and Café Culture

Prague's most liveable neighbourhood — Art Nouveau apartment blocks, tree-lined squares, a sophisticated restaurant and café scene, and a genuinely residential feel. Guests who stay here see the Prague that Praguers live in.

  • Best for: repeat visitors, couples, digital nomads, guests who want 'real Prague'
  • Metro: Náměstí Míru or Jiřího z Poděbrad (Line A) — 10 min to Old Town
  • Must-mention: Riegrovy Sady park for beer garden sunset, Náměstí Míru market on weekends, Café Savoy for classic Prague café experience
  • Tip: Vinohrady's farmers market (Jiřák) on Saturday mornings is a genuine local experience — include the time and location

Žižkov — Best for Bohemian Atmosphere and Nightlife

One of the highest pub-per-capita ratios in Europe, the iconic TV Tower with baby sculptures, and a neighbourhood that's been bohemian since the 19th century. Younger guests and those who want to escape tourist Prague find Žižkov consistently excellent.

  • Best for: young travellers, pub culture enthusiasts, alternative scene seekers
  • Tram: multiple routes to Old Town (15 min), no direct metro — tram-dependent
  • Must-mention: Žižkov Television Tower (iconic, love-it-or-hate-it), Parukářka Park for local evening scene, U Vystřelenýho Voka pub for classic Žižkov atmosphere
  • Tip: explain that Žižkov is a 15-min tram from Old Town — walking is uphill and misleading on maps

Malá Strana (Lesser Town) — Best for Castle Views and Quiet Stays

Beneath Prague Castle — cobblestone streets, Baroque churches, Kampa Island, and one of the city's most romantic atmospheres. Quieter and more expensive than Old Town; popular with honeymooners and those on longer stays.

  • Best for: honeymooners, photography enthusiasts, longer stays
  • Tram: Malostranské náměstí stop — 10 min to Old Town by tram or foot across Charles Bridge
  • Must-mention: Kampa Island for riverside walks, John Lennon Wall, Prague Castle at opening (before the tour groups)
  • Tip: Petřín Hill is 10 minutes uphill — include the funicular; guests love it and most don't know it exists
